Specification, not guesswork
Commercial surfaces fail from under-specification. A build-up fine for a family car will rut within months under a delivery lorry turning on the same spot. We assess the traffic — type of vehicle, frequency, turning circles, where loading actually happens — and design the formation, sub-base depth and surface course around it, with heavier-duty construction on aisles and access routes than on standing bays.
Surfaces include machine-laid tarmac for larger areas, heavy-duty concrete for loading aprons and bin stores, block paving where a smarter frontage is wanted, and resin bound for entrances and pedestrian routes where appearance and accessibility matter.
Drainage, compliance and safety
Larger areas of hard surfacing need a proper drainage strategy: falls to linear channels or gullies, permeable construction or attenuation where discharge is restricted, and interceptors where fuel or oil is a risk. We also detail the pedestrian side — dropped kerbs, tactile paving, accessible bay dimensions and clear routes from parking to the entrance.
Sites are set up with segregation between the works and the public, signage and lighting where needed, and daily clean-down. Method statements and risk assessments are issued before we start.
Phasing and disruption
We split larger areas into sections so a proportion of the parking stays available, agree delivery windows that avoid your busiest times, and set out clearly in the programme which area is out of use each week. For sites that genuinely cannot close, evening and weekend working is an option.

Can you work outside trading hours?
Yes. Most commercial work is phased so part of the site stays open, and where a car park or forecourt cannot be closed at all we look at evening or weekend working. Local authority noise restrictions apply to some Portsmouth locations, so the programme is agreed before we start rather than negotiated on day one.
What construction depth does a car park need?
Deeper than a domestic driveway. Car-only bays are lighter duty, but aisles, delivery routes and bin lorry access need a sub-base and surfacing designed around the axle loads and frequency involved. We specify from the actual usage rather than applying a domestic build-up to a commercial site.
Do you handle drainage and SuDS requirements?
Yes — channel drainage, gullies, interceptors where required, permeable construction and attenuation. Larger commercial hard surfaces generally need a drainage strategy rather than a simple fall to a gully, and getting that agreed early avoids problems at sign-off.
Do you provide documentation for tenders?
We supply itemised quotations, method statements, risk assessments and insurance details. For managed properties we can work to a specifying agent’s drawings or price against a schedule of works.
