Why choose resin for a patio

A resin bound terrace has no joints, so there is nowhere for weeds and moss to establish and nothing to lift or rock underfoot. It is smooth enough for garden furniture, wheelchairs and pushchairs, and it works particularly well on the awkward, irregular garden shapes common across Southsea, Milton and Old Portsmouth — the surface simply follows the outline you set.

Because it is permeable, rainwater drains straight through into the base rather than pooling by the back door, which matters on the flatter plots around Portsea Island.

How we build a resin patio

Everything depends on the base. We excavate to a firm formation, compact a granular sub-base and lay either open-graded asphalt or a reinforced concrete slab with the right falls away from the house. Edge restraints and any steps are formed before the resin goes anywhere near the site.

The aggregate and UV-stable resin are then forced-mixed on site in weighed batches, poured out and hand trowelled to a consistent depth — normally 15mm for a patio. Junctions against thresholds, drainage channels and planting beds are cut in and finished by hand.

Colours and detailing

Blends run from warm golds and buffs to silver, charcoal and mixed earth tones, and we bring sample boards so you can see them dry and wet. Contrasting borders in block paving or granite setts frame the terrace neatly, and inset lighting or a porcelain feature area can be worked in where you want a change of texture.

Maintenance and aftercare

A brush down, an occasional rinse and a very low-pressure wash once a year is the whole job. No re-sanding, no re-pointing and no lifting slabs.
